Sun shines on The Run

The Run 11

Record October temperatures greeted thousands of runners on Sunday for the third Run - Northamptonshire.

The event, which included a 10km race, 5km race and 1km and 2km races for children, took place on Northampton town centre roads which were manned by hundreds of willing volunteers.

The winner of the 10K race was won by Northamptonshire Fireman Phil Melling in a fantastic time of 33 minutes 17 seconds, less than a minute short of the course record despite the soaring temperature.

Joining Phil and the other elite runners on the route were thousands running to raise money for charities such as the air ambulance and local charity The Lowdown.

Chris Holmes, Director of Northamptonshire Sport said "It was great to see so many competitors and volunteers out to take part in and support this event . More than ever, The Run has brought new people into sport, both volunteering and participating and by linking with initiatives like Jog Northants. We've seen jogging groups formed over the past year throughout the county with the whole group running together today. A big well done to everyone who took part and thanks to all those who helped make this a great day in the Northamptonshire Sporting Calendar!"
