Sportivate success in Northamptonshire

Sportivate Kettering

Hundreds of young people in Northamptonshire have been inspired to play sport in the first six months of Sport England's Sportivate Olympic and Paralympic legacy initiative.

16 year old Jessica Burke-Martin from Kettering is one of the teenagers and young adults who've benefitted from the sports coaching. Having taken part in an 8 week Volleyball Sportivate course she is now a regular with her local Volleyball team and has also recently qualified to coach volleyball

Jessica said, "I had never really thought about volleyball, when my friend suggested that we try it out, and since then I've loved it and the both of us still play. I've made such good friends and haven't looked back since!"

Sportivate is aimed at 14 to 25 year-olds who aren't currently playing sport, giving them the chance to find a sport they enjoy. The young people are then helped to find a club or venue where they can continue to play at the end of the Programme.

Northamptonshire Sport is running Sportivate sessions in a range of activities including Sailing, Rugby, Boxing, Dance and Volleyball Northamptonshire Sport in working with local providers and sports clubs to help 14- to 25-year-olds in Northamptonshire to continue playing sport long after they have completed the course - and there are still many opportunities for you to get involved, as a participant, volunteer or if you are a club - to deliver activities!
