Northamptonshire Sport – new set-up
The 1st April is not usually a day to make an announcement if you want it to be taken seriously but it does signify a new milestone in the life of the County Sports Partnership. Much has changed in the last 15 months, none the least the strategic direction for Sport England, one of Northamptonshire Sport’s key funders. This has meant a refocusing of the CSPs resources and staff. From the start of the financial year Northamptonshire Sport will be a slightly slimmer organisation but as interim Director, Chris Holmes, notes “one still very focused on getting more people participating in sport, physical activity and active recreation. Our wider remit remains. Our job to support our partners in the drive to make Northamptonshire a place were participation in sport or physical activity is a given”.
The CSP has re-organised its staffing structure so that it can deliver on its key work areas whilst also being easy to adapt and flex for future demands. It is often said that sport cannot develop without two key components - coaches and facilities. With that in mind the one part of the core team (Infrastructure) will be responsible for making sure those building blocks are in place through such things as workforce development, volunteer recruitment, facility overview and advice, funding information, etc. The other part of the core team will be focused on taking those building blocks and putting the activity on the ground (Programmes), both in terms of sport and in physical activity.
The changes might mean that we do certain things a little differently or that you are dealing with a different officer over a particular matter. What you will get are the same levels of professionalism and enthusiasm from members of the core team as before and we look forward to the run-up to the next big thing on the horizon....of course, London 2012!
