Let the Sport Making commence!

Sport Makers

Northamptonshire Sport officially launched Sport Makers Programme at The Coca Cola Torch Relay event on Friday 28th October 2011 at The University of Northampton.

Lots of sports activities were on offer for visitors to try as well as the unique opportunity to have photographs taken with the Olympic Torch and mingle with Northamptonshire's finest past and present Great British athletes.

The event was a great success, attracted hundreds of visitors and provided a fantastic opportunity to launch Sport Makers, an exciting new programme, which aims to bring the magic of the Olympic and Paralympic Games within our local communities to life.

The project uses the inspirational pull of London 2012 to inspire over 500 adults in Northamptonshire to make sport happen for their friends, neighbours or colleagues. Over 200 students, staff and visitors at the University of Northampton have now expressed an interest in becoming a Sport Maker, all of which will be invited to attend a free interactive workshop to gain new skills and identify how they can make sport happen.

Sir Steve Redgrave , five-time Olympic Gold Medalist says "The thing I want to see more than anything is more people out enjoying what sport has to offer, but we need your help to make it happen.''

If you believe you could become a Sport Maker you can find out more and book onto a workshop at www.sportmakers.co.uk , everyone that attends a workshop will receive a free Adidas Polo shirt and bag. Clubs or event organisers that might benefit from recruiting Sport Makers can register at www.sportmakers.co.uk/become-a-provider or contact Felicity Drake, Volunteer Development Officer on 01604 366215. .
