Friars Fly Flag for County

Students from Friars Special School and Sports College in Wellingborough recently represented Northamptonshire in the East Midlands Parallel Games for young people with disabilities.

The 23 Friar's Students that took part in the event which was held at Grantham Mears Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire had been selected for the county team by impressing coaches in local schools multi-sport events.

The East Midlands Parallel Games now in its second year is organised by Schools Competition Managers from the 5 participating counties of Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

The Friar's Students took part in 3 events on the day which were Sports Hall Athletics, Sitting Volleyball and Table Tennis. They were given expert coaching from the National Governing Bodies of the sports in the morning and then put this in to practise in the afternoon with a competition. The Northamptonshire squad did themselves proud in all 3 events winning the Sports Hall Athletics, coming 3rd in the Table - Tennis and 4th in the Sitting Volleyball.
