To provide and co-ordinate a cohesive framework for sports specific development across Northamptonshire, from playground to podium -
Physical Activity
Use physical activity to improve the physical, social, mental health and wellbeing of people in Northamptonshire in order to achieve a physically active Northamptonshire. -
Community
To target interventions to encourage lifelong involvement in sport and physical activity in order to provide healthier, safer and more prosperous communities -
Education and Skills
Develop high quality education and skills based programmes that provide relevant and accessible opportunities to develop the workforce
Objectives for Sport in Northamptonshire
- Develop a cohesive player pathway
- Provide a forum where good practice and information can be communicated to partners in relation to local, regional and national issues and initiatives
- Advocate for "Sport for Sports sake" at county, regional and national levels
- Co-ordinate a system for sport to monitor its performance against identified Key Performance Indicators
- Act as a consultative body for funding, planning and the future strategic development of sport
- Support the development of specific working groups that will improve the quality and/quality of sport provision
Objectives for a Physically Active Northamptonshire
- Communicate and advocate at a strategic level, the positive contribution sport and physical activity can make in terms of social, mental and physical well being.
- Strategic planning across agencies delivering health outcomes to ensure co-ordination and a reduction in duplication
- Promote high quality well targeted attractive facilities for physical activity - CH
- Facilitate the development of innovative physical activity programmes in order to reach the wider population - CH
- Halt in the rise of obesity levels of young people - CH
- Encourage employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors to engage and motivate staff to be more active.- CH
- Advocate a balance between informal and formal sporting and physical activity opportunities by providers.
- Promote to the community physical activity as an integral part of daily life.
- Coordinate a system of collecting and monitoring the measurement and impact of physical activity against key performance indicators
Objectives to Use Sport in the Community
- Identify and utilise appropriate mechanisms to disseminate information and good practice
- Advise and provide strategic direction on countywide issues relating to community sports development
- Work in partnership with key agencies in the development of communities through sport
- Implement monitoring and evaluation procedures which show that sport is making a difference within communities
- Identify grant aid and funding sources for community sport at a county and community sports network level.
- Provide guidance to Community Sports Networks on the use of sport within the community sector
- Promote sport and physical activity to aid in unifying communities; unlocking local skills and help people affect a positive lifestyle change.
- Develop programmes to widen access to sport and physical activity as a means of tackling social isolation and bring a range of social benefits to a community.
- Strategic planning across the education, skills and community sectors for sport and physical activity through an strategic approach to workforce development
- Higher Education (HE) Further Education (FE) and other learning providers to deliver an education and skills framework which supports the development of a strong sporting/physical activity workforce in the county
- Promote sport and physical activity to develop skills and knowledge to aid lifelong learning.
- Promote the development of vocational and academic pathways to careers and through leisure, with an aim of widening the opportunity of deployment within the county
- Develop leadership and key skills for sport and physical activity within the voluntary sector.
