The Run '09 is Coming
Saints and Cobblers stars, Stephen Myler, Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe and Luke Gutteridge, today helped to launch a brand new running event taking place in Northampton this autumn. ‘The Run 09 – Northamptonshire’ will take place on Sunday 4th October giving runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities the chance to take part in a mass participation event to rival the world famous famous Great North Run.
Organisers of the event were also present yesterday and explained that there would be 5km and 10km courses, a series of Children’s Races, as well as a celebration of local music, dance and entertainment.
One of the event organisers, Chris Holmes of Northamptonshire Sport, said “Northamptonshire has got a lot to shout about. We want to show-off a bit and to make a noise about our ambition to be one of the most physically active counties”.
“There’s something for everyone – keen runners, recreational joggers, lapsed fitness fans – but what we really want are people who have never done anything like this before to come and give it a go”.
Starting at Sixfields Stadium the courses pass some of the most well known Northamptonshire landmarks – Express Lift Tower, All Saints Church, The Guildhall, St.Giles Church, Market Square and the Saints Rugby Football Club. Whilst The Run 09 is in the town of Northampton organisers hope that entrants will come from all over the county and even beyond the borders.
- The Run 09 will offer something for everyone;
- The enthusiast runner a tempting opportunity for a personal best on a fast closed road course
- The recreational runner a challenging run in a great setting with lots of support
- The charity jogger a unique opportunity to run for money in the heart of a town
- The non-runner or jogger a really good reason to get out there and experience a memorable adventure with a unique blend of fitness, culture and music
Stephen Horsley, Director of Public Health for NHS Northants, pointed out "Our ambition is to be the fittest county in the country and this event is a great opportunity to raise awareness about the fact that regular physical activity is essential for good health. An active lifestyle reduces the risk of so many life-threatening diseases – cancer, cardio-vascular disease, obesity, diabetes - and at NHS Northamptonshire, we are committed to supporting those who want to make physical activity an integral part of their everyday life."
As David Wright, CEO of Northamptonshire Enterprise Ltd, went on to explain "Northamptonshire is a great place with some stunning countryside and beautiful buildings. Anyone taking part in The Run 09 will also enjoy a snapshot of our vibrant cultural heritage as there’ll music, dance and entertainment from around the county along the route. This event will showcase the entire county to residents and visitors alike".
