Sun shines on Run 09
The sun was out on Sunday morning, along with 2000 adults and 300 children who ran the first Run: Northamptonshire.
Matthew Almond of Coventry Godiva Harriers won the 10K race in a time of 31 minutes 44 seconds.
Thanks to the efforts of a team of over 175 volunteers the roads around the centre of Northampton were closed to traffic as thousands of spectators saw former Roade school pupil and Olympic athlete Derek Redmond start the race with BBC Radio's Bernie Keith providing light-hearted entertainment throughout the morning. There was also a party atmosphere along the route with a samba band near the Saints ground and youth orchestra in the Market Square.
Chris Holmes Director of Northamptonshire Sport said " Despite the obvious teething problems that we’ll be working very hard on to make right for next year, the event has brought new volunteers into sport and created new running/ exercise initiatives and activities locally to get more people into sport and physical activity"
