NTGA Celebrating British Team Selections
Northants Academy Gymnasts Secure European Selection.
Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnast Academy is celebrating after four senior members of the Academy secure senior selection for Great Britain. James Higgins, Steve Walsh, Jaime Moore and Yasmin Gumbs are selected to represent Great Britain at this year’s European Senior Championships.
The four gymnasts who train at the Northampton Trampoline Centre, on the Kings Park site have dedicated their time and effort to secure their place and were rewarded this week after success in two trials events organised by British Gymnastics. The European Championships are in Odense, Denmark, 27 April – 4 May 2008.
Along with the selection of the individual and team place, Walsh & Higgins and Moore & Gumbs have also been selected for the Synchronised event. This will be a debut international event for the pairs.
In the youth trials event the Academy were represented by William Howell and Sophie Gardner. Howell (Northamptonshire Grammar School) impressed with his current form and improvement over the last year but just missed out by finishing in 6th position after the two trials. Gardner (Northamptonshire School for Girls) is currently waiting for a decision from selectors as the 4th GB team place was a tied position after a strong performance in both trial events. More information to follow.
Says Tracy Whittaker-Smith – Performance Director at the Academy:
“We’re absolutely thrilled that The Academy has secured 4 places on the senior Great Britain team. It is real testament to the gymnasts themselves and the work that they have out in over the last 5 years. The junior gymnasts coming through, who are coached by Harvey Smith, are being supported by their schools and this is making a difference to the amount of time they can train. Their success is due to the extra time they have committed to training which is now paying off. We have their schools to thank for that.
