Northamptonshire Sports Leadership Academy launched

The Sports Leadership Academy pilot project is now underway in the consortium schools in East  Northants, these include Manor School & Sports College, Rushden School, Ferrers School and Huxlow School. The Academy is being run in partnership by Northamptonshire Sport and University College Northampton.

The Academy will assist potential young sports leaders in gaining sports qualifications and will provide the appropriate support and experience to help them develop their coaching and leadership skills.

40 Community Sports Leaders from the schools have signed up to take part on the Sports Leadership Academy programme. All students have completed a 12 month Personal Development Plan relating to leadership and sports coaching.

To date, 12 sports clubs in East Northants and Wellingborough have also signed up to take part in the programme offering volunteer placements for the young people at the Academy. It is anticipated that all 40 leaders will be in their club placements by Christmas.
