Lottery Award for Sports Coaching

Northamptonshire Sport is celebrating after receiving an award of £25,000 (over 2 years) from Sport England to develop sporting opportunities for young people across the county.This award will contribute towards the employment of 3 Community Sports Coaches in the sports of golf and cycling.

The award has been made through the Community Investment Fund which is managed by Sport England and aims to get more people involved in sport.

To date, Northamptonshire Sport has received awards of over £500,000 to support the employment of professional coaches who work across the county to increase the number and range of high quality coaching opportunities for young people. Following the appointment of the 3 new coaches there will be a total of 33 Full and Part time coaches working in Northamptonshire in a variety of sports.

Over the past 6 months alone, coaches working within the Community Sports Coaches Scheme have provided over 10,000 hours of high quality coaching to over 12,000 young people.

Vanessa Brown, Director of Northamptonshire Sport said:

“Coaching is fundamental to sport. The fact that Northamptonshire is leading the way in this initiative demonstrates our determination to create, develop and co-ordinate sporting opportunities in the county. The value of young people receiving quality coaching will be crucial if we are to be successful at the London 2012 Games.”
