Girls Football Festival in Rushden

On Wednesday 3rd March between 1.00 pm and 3.00 pm on the (A6 football pitch), Rushden and Diamonds Football Club hosted a girls football festival for Year 7 girls from schools in East Northamptonshire and Wellingborough.

The festival is the culmination of several weeks intensive coaching in schools in both districts by qualified football coaches from Rushden and Diamonds Football Club.

This has been possible through a partnership between the Northamptonshire Football Association, East Northamptonshire Cultural Trust - Cultural.Community.Partnerships, Wellingborough Borough Council, Northamptonshire Sport and Rushden and Diamonds F.C.

Trophies and medals, funded by Cultural. Community. Partnerships and Wellingborough Council, will be provided to the teams finishing first, second and third.  There is an added incentive to do well as the winning team from each district will go forward to represent their district at the 2004 Northamptonshire Youth Games.

A similar competition will also take place at the Diamonds on Wednesday 31st March for Primary school girls in years 5 and 6 in East Northamptonshire which will involve the following schools; Woodford, Denfield Park, Newton Road, St Peter's, Southend, Windmill and Gt Addington. These schools have also received coaching and 153 girls have benefited.
