Child friendly fun run comes to Northampton
Northampton Borough Council are delighted to announce that they are hosting their first ever children and families fun run. Organised in conjunction with Run for the Children and Rugby and Northampton Athletics Club this event will take place on Sunday May 15th in Abington Park at 11am.
Run for the Children involves 3 elements; a starter race only 3k (1.86 miles), a year-long activity programme developed by Runners World and a year-long diet and healthy eating programme from Sainsburys.
The event is open to anyone of any age parents with their children, singles couples and groups of friends, grannies and granddads. All participants are encouraged to raise a little money for the charity, Children with Leukaemia. They will each be provided with a personal sponsorship fundraising kit to help them do so. The Run cost adults £8 to enter ( £10 on the day) but any child under the age of 15 is free, there is no minimum age. There will be medals for all participants.
Caroline Johnson Senior Sports Development Officer with Northampton Borough Council says this is an excellent opportunity for the whole family to get out in the fresh air and exercise together. We are very pleased to be holding this first family run in Northampton and Abington Park is a great venue. With the governments emphasis on increasing physical activity this is a good way to get started in a non competitive event.
If you would like to take part, application forms are available from the One StopShop at the Guildhall in Northampton or via the phone on 01604 837735.
