Cash Boost for College and University Sport

The University of Northampton is celebrating after being awarded a grant from Sport England to enhance and develop sports opportunities in higher and further education across Northamptonshire.

The £44,000 grant has been award to support the development of a joint project between the University, Moulton College, Tresham Institute and Northamptonshire Sport. The project will focus on developing sport and physical activity provision, competitive opportunities, sports leadership and volunteering, through the appointment of a College Sports Coordinator to work across the three institutes.

Mike Gillespie, Principal Lecturer of Sports and Exercise Sciences at the University of Northampton said ‘This funding is a much need boost to sport within HE/FE in across Northamptonshire, the project will enhance joint working across the institutes which will no doubt be of great benefit to students and staff alike.'

The funding will help Northamptonshire to achieve the national target of increasing participation in physical activity, sport or volunteering by 3% over the next 3 years.
