BBC EAST MIDLANDS SPORTS AWARDS 2006 – winners announced

The winners of BBC East Midlands Sports Awards 2006 have been announced at a glittering ceremony at the Assembly Rooms in Derby(Monday 27th November).  The event, sponsored by Sport England East Midlands, beamed live pictures worldwide in a TV webcast.   John Inverdale and a team of celebrity guest presenters announced the following:

Northamptonshire had a wonderful evening, with 4 awards...

Colin Calderwood, Nottingham Forest won the football achievement award for gaining promotion with Northampton Town and taking Nottingham Forest to the top of League One.

 Mandy Young, Corby won the emda Enterprise in Sport Award.  She’s spent 4 years bringing together local businesses, local authorities and local youths to form Adrenalin Alley – one of the UK’s most innovative and best Urban Sports Centres for skateboarding and bikes.

Tracy Whittaker-Smith, was named Sport England East Midlands’ Community Coach of the Year.  She has coached two athletes to the European finals in trampoline gymnastics; 4 won national titles and she continues to develop an academy with an imminent move to a new centre.

Caitlin McClatchey, (pictured) celebrates her 21st birthday this week with the Sportswoman of the Year trophy.  Caitlin had outstanding swims at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
