Governance of Northamptonshire Sport

Northamptonshire Sport governance operates through a:
Stakeholder Group, Executive Board, 4 Themed Focus Groups, and a number of working groups. Each District has a Community Sports Network that will provides local guidance and action planning to support interventions for sport and physical activity.

Functions of the Stakeholders Group

Stakeholders will be all those organisations that currently invest, work with or who have shared aims with Northamptonshire Sport and acknowledged the MOU. The Stakeholders will be responsible for the Northamptonshire Sport Strategy and establish policy to service the development of sport and physical activity in the county. The Stakeholders will advise in the development of county wide strategies driven by local needs that both reflect and influence national strategies. The Stakeholders group will receive the Annual Accounts and Report as well as the Annual Business Plan for the Core Team

Functions of the Executive Board

Northamptonshire Sport's Executive Board will work to support the role of the partnership in working with key agencies to develop sport and its infrastructure. Board members will champion and advocate sport within a county context and will be able to operate and represent sport at strategic level and functional levels, engaging with relevant agencies and organisations. Four representatives will carry the portfolio of each of the respective Advisory Forums. The Board will manage the business planning of the core team and provide the quarterly financial reviews of the operations of behalf of the Stakeholders.

Functions of the Advisory Forums

Forums will be established under the themes of Sport, Physical Activity, Community Sport and Education and Skills. Each Forum will provide the consultation and measurement platforms for the objectives under their respective strategic aim. The Champion from each forum will ensure that each strategic aim is considered at the Executive Board as well as being reported back to the Stakeholders. Each Forum will be working to an agreed terms of reference.

Functions of the Community Sports Networks

Community Sport Networks (CSNs) developed at a sub-county level have a purpose to ensure effective delivery, identifying and meeting local need through local partners. The rollout of CSNs across Northamptonshire will be strategically decided with discussion with each District and key agencies working at sub-county levels.

The parameters of a CSN business will be determined locally, however this will be done within the following core principles:

  • Local joint planning across sport, physical activity, education and skill and community sport
  • Link to the Northamptonshire Sport through officer support
  • Link to the Sport Strategy objectives
  • Link to the Local Strategic Partnership to effectively align local community plans
  • Members to have engagement with the local sport and physical activity agenda
