5k Race Series - Rules
Race entries can be made online via the Northamptonshire Sport website (closes 2 days before each race), or you can enter on the day using the official entry form - PDF version printable from this site.
Competitors for the 5k races must be aged 11 or over on race day (11 and 12 year olds must be accompanied by an adult entrant).
On the Day Registration
On arrival at each venue ALL competitors must report to the Registration Desk to collect their race number and sign in. Please arrive in good time - at least 1 hour prior to the race start time - and, if entering on the day bring ALL paperwork with you, plus the correct entry fee in cash.
* Please note: Registration will be open from 9.15am – 10.15am for morning races and 6.15pm to 7.15pm for evening races.
A race number must be worn on your front during the event at all times and should be pinned to your shirt/vest with safety pins. It is your responsibility to enter any contact information/medical information on the back. If you have entered online for a 4 race block, please use the same number for all races, but you must still register your attendance at each race. If you have entered online for individual races you will be issued a new number for each race. People entering on the day will be issued a new number for each race.
* Please note: Remember to bring safety pins with you!
You may enter as part of a team - E.g. Club, Workplace/Organisation, or Run England/Jog Northants Group. The team must consist of 4 runners and can be mixed age (11 or over) and/or gender. The winning team in each category will be decided by the lowest cumulative finishing position of the runners in that team. Please ensure that you identify yourself as a team member, with a club/team name at the point of entry.
All participants will receive a medal for finishing each race. Each race will have a slightly different medal so will give participants a chance to collect as many as possible in the 4-race set. Participants signing up to all 4 races in the series will receive a 5k Race Series technical t-shirt. T-shirts will be available to purchase for a small fee to other participants.
The race briefing for each race will take place at 10.15am / 7.15pm near the start area. All competitors should attend the race briefing as this is where you will be informed of any route changes and safety points.
The event will be held under the rules of UK Athletics. Under these rules it is mandatory that all competitors are insured by third party civil liability insurance. UKA Members are insured as part of their affiliation package, all other competitors will be required to pay a non-affiliation fee per race (included in entry fee) to ensure that they have the relevant civil liability insurance. If you require further information about affiliation, please email email@example.com, or telephone UK Athletics on 0870 9986700.
Course Surface & Distances
In accordance to UK Athletics guidance, the Northants 5k Race Series has more than 10% of the route which is off-road, as such classifying the races as Multi Terrain. Multi Terrain courses cannot be issued with a certificate of course accuracy by UK Athletics.

The safety of our competitors is paramount. First Aid provision will be provided at each event. If before, during or after the event you feel that you require any type of medical care, please do not hesitate to contact one of the Event Marshals.
We request that all competitors write their next of kin and contact details on the back of their race number. If you have any type of medical condition or are taking any type of medication please write a large "MC" on the bottom left of your race number (front). Please write your medical condition fully on the back of your number. This will only be used in the event of you being involved in a medical incident.
Volunteers play a vital role in the Northants 5k Race Series and without the time, energy and commitment of these people, the Series would not be able to run.
Volunteers will carry out one or two of the following duties; event set up (e.g. signage), marshalling around the course, registration, handing out medals and water to finishers, event close down, etc. All volunteers will be briefed by the Event Coordinator one hour before the start time.
* Each volunteer will receive 1 free race entry for a friend/family to be used at that event. If you would like to take up this offer, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 07795 256199 with the names of the volunteer and free race entrant.
In the event of a lost person, please report to Event Registration or to an Event Marshall.
